Hello lovely subscribers,
It has been an exciting month at CORPO, so exciting that we couldn’t get all our October news out in time!
At long last in this month's newsletter you can read all about building progress, opening, program, our team, and we will remind you about our open call.
Studio Construction
The news we’ve awaited has finally arrived!
Thanks to the hard work of the Wolphaertstraat1555 community over the last months and years, the CORPO Studio is built and the initiative is in our hands! The studio now has its fully functioning kitchenette and toilet and they even fixed a leak along the way.
This means that the studio is ours to prep with painting, flooring and furnishing this month before finally opening our doors at the start of November.
Grand Opening
The news we’ve awaited has finally arrived!
Thanks to the hard work of the Wolphaertstraat1555 community over the last months and years, the CORPO Studio is built and the initiative is in our hands! The studio now has its fully functioning kitchenette and toilet and they even fixed a leak along the way.
If you are as excited as we are about opening and want to be more involved, we are looking for volunteers to help us get the party started. You can message Jessica, Julia or Noemi or email us at info@stichtingcorpo.nl if you’d like to help out!
Our Program
Classes, Workshops and Open Days (oh my)
Not only are we celebrating opening, but we are also beginning our weekly program starting on the 1st of November. Soon you will be able to sign up on our website for our dance and movement classes, hobby sharing and work space, open gym, dancing for kids, and even Daxuan classes.
Team CORPO
The WE in CORPO
The progress we are sharing this month is largely attributed to the fact that a fantastic Team CORPO has formed. As some of you know Jessica Hellmuth initiated CORPO, but this month she has been joined by Julia Quintanilla and Noemi Bardas. This trio will soon form the board of directors and have already been working together to get the space ready to open!
From Colorado, Jessica has lived in Rotterdam-Zuid for 6 years, studying and working as a circus artist. Through this work, she discovered the importance of community and developed an interest in using art to make connections between different people. She discovered the W1555 association at the end of 2021 and applied to their call for public initiatives. Since then, she has gone through a massive learning experience and is looking forward to continuing this as CORPO opens its doors!
Originally from Spain, Julia is not only an experienced dancer but has a passion to use her art to get to know others and find more acceptance of our bodies. She has danced with numerous companies after studying dance specializing in ballet and contemporary and has a masters in Management and Leadership of Cultural Projects. Now she has moved to Rotterdam right above CORPO and will be running the open gym and WODANCO workshop bringing womxn dancers and movers together starting in January.
Noemi moved to the Netherlands from Romania 5 years ago to study Transformative Social Innovation. After graduating, she came across CORPO and got in contact to share her incredibly fitting combination of experience in group facilitation and interest in both non-hierarchical community design and using dance and movement to bring people together. Noemi is now working with us to build a more inclusive and community oriented program and space.
Open Call
Join us for a Research Week
Alongside the grand opening and our weekly program, the Research Week open call is still open if you'd like to come and create at the studio during the last week of a month when we suspend the program to offer you the studio full time. Applicants are generally first come first serve so apply now if you are interested!
Soon we will have a calendar up for when Research Weeks and their corresponding open showings or workshops will take place, so stay tuned to find out when you can get to know the artists and projects at CORPO.
Thank You
No really, you're the best.
Thank you so much for your support and interest in our brand new initiative, we can’t wait to welcome you into the space and finally begin to see what CORPO really looks like.
Have a lovely October and see you next month!
